Growth Form: Tree

General Habitat: 'Higher reaches' as in hills or higher ground rather than flat plains

Uses: ash bark used medicinally, as a diuretic and febrifuge.

Outside Info: Because of the variety of trees called 'ash' it is difficult to tell them apart. Ashes offer commercial, ornamental, and ecological values.

The wood of ash is hard (a hardwood), tough, and very strong, yet is elastic. As such, it is extensively used for making bows, tool handles, and other uses demanding high strength and resilience. It is also used as material for the bodies of guitars, known for its bright, cutting tone and sustaining quality. Ash veneers are extensively used in furniture. The Black Ash is prized for making lightweight, durable split-ash baskets, and it also makes excellent firewood
